The Pursuit of Perfection

Perfection is a mirage that burdens the souls of many. It is an idea imposed that consumes and leaves a valley of dry bones. It is a lie that we try to attain for our pride.

" I will never be perfect." I would remind myself as tears navigated the crevices of my face. These words, in one form or another, rang true and would dissect any wholeness.

"If I attain this, I will sustain that." The calculus of perfection had me solving for Collatz conjecture, forgetting the fact that I am one of one.

My uniqueness is encoded by love, transcribed by community and translated by me to navigate the tides of my mind, speak life to those around me, and go beyond horizons.

What lies beneath this hunger for perfection? Why do I need to look like you? Why do I need to be like you? Why do I need to have everything figured out by a certain time? Why do I need to feed this lie?

I will never be perfect. "What a relief." I whispered to myself as the shackles of perfection fell off and a robe of grace embraced me. I can be patient with myself as I learn to live. Mistakes are but fine tuners, scars are stars and cycles are seasons that always come to an end.

So remember, you are one of one. Your uniqueness is encoded by love, transcribed by community and translated by you. Navigate the tides of your mind, speak life to those around and go beyond horizons.
